i made this custom queen sized mint and cream blanket for Devon, and i was so pleased with how it came out! i'd love to make one for myself one of these days.
pattern: zig zag blanket
i used:
5.5 mm crochet hook
caron simply soft yarn in soft green and off white (about 18 skeins for this queen sized blanket)
scissors
yarn needle to weave in ends
chain a multiple of 28 stitches (for this queen size blanket, i chained 336)
row 1: turn. ch 2. 2 dcs in 3rd ch from hook, *10 dcs, dc3together 2 times, 10 dcs, (3 dcs in next stitch) 2 times* ; repeat from * to * across, ending with 3 dcs in last ch.
row 2: turn. ch 2. 2 dcs in first dc, *10 dcs, dc3together 2 times, 10 dcs, (3 dcs in next stitch) 2 times* ; repeat from * to * across, ending with 3 dcs in turning chain.
repeat row 2.
for this 2 color blanket,i switched colors after every seven rows.
Awe, love it and its colors!

ReplyDeleteSo wonderful, I love it! The colors are simply dreamy, it makes me think of a beach house, which leads to thinking about summer and the sea...Oh my, this winter was way too long and cold on our side of the world. :)
ReplyDeleteOh and so nice of you to share the pattern, hope I'll be able to find the time to start it and then give myself enough time to finish it and not feel bad about deadlines, hahahaha.

Love your blog by the way. So crafty
Curious, what were the measurements of the finished blanket? Beautiful! And thanks again for sharing your patterns!
ReplyDeletethe finished measurements were 90x90 inches. thank you!
Deletewell, this is just really gorgeous. I LOVE crocheted afghans, and this zigzag pattern is so fantastic! what a special present!
ReplyDeleteOh I love it, you always make just the prettiest of things! :) -Lo
ReplyDeleteSimple lovely! When you say 18 skeins, I assume you mean 9 of each color?
ReplyDeleteoh,yes 9 of each!
DeleteI just popped in to say that I can never thank you enough for making such a beautiful blanket for me! It is truly a treasure that I plan to pass on to my kiddos one day. You are the best!!
ReplyDeleteoh i'm so glad you like it, i'm honored! thank you Devon!!
Deletebeautiful... thanks for this pattern!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful Lindsi :) I want to make a chunky blanket/throw for my 3/4 bed, but I'll definetly need some $ for the amount of skeins! Where do you buy your yarn?
ReplyDeleteI know this is probably a silly question, but what method of switching colors do you use? Do you cut the yarn? Carry it? If you could let me know, I'd appreciate it! I hope to make one of these blankets for a friend as a wedding gift!!
ReplyDeletethanks for your question ashley! when i want to change colors, i work the stitch to within the last step, and then finish it with the new color. i also cut the yarn with enough length to sew it in really well.
DeleteI wish I have the talent in crocheting too! good job dear! very nice!

I would like you to know you are officially one of my favorite people! I have searched high and low for this pattern but the only one I could find, the zig zags are more rounded. Thank you times a million! Your projects are gorgeous, they inspire me to make things more my style instead of the typical slouchy hats and such that ive been making since I learned to crochet. You awesome!
ReplyDeleteHey Lindsi, can you suggest how many chains I would start with if I was making this for a twin size bed rather than a queen? thank you so much! Love the pattern and colour choices, it's inspired me to start my first epic crochet project!
ReplyDeleteThe peaks of my blanket aren't meeting up and after reading the pattern what feels like 100 times I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong! When you write dc3togeher 2 times that means yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops] 3 times (4 loops on hook), yarn over, draw through all loops on hook...and then I do that twice into separate stitches, correct? and then for the 3dc in next stitch I just double crochet three times into two separate stitches? Sorry that this is such a confusing comment! I just can't figure out what i've done wrong!
ReplyDeleteOops, i'm sorry i haven't checked back at the comments in awhile!
DeleteIt sounds like the way you're describing the stitches is correct, i just want to make sure that each dc3together is made over 3 stitches (or 3 chains if you're on the foundation chain).
together the (3dctogether 2 times) takes up 6 separate stitches in all. 3 for each 3dctogether (if that makes sense)
so,,
dc3together:
(yarn over, insert hook into stitch #1, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops)
now don't keep working in stitch #1, but move to stitch #2- (yarn over, insert hook into stitch #2, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops)
and now do the same and move to stitch #3- (yarn over, insert hook into stitch #3, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops)
then finish the whole thing- (4 loops on hook) yarn over, draw through all loops on hook.
that finishes the first dc3together. then, do the same dc3together over the next 3 stitches.
it should be two groups of 3dcs sort of pulled together to form the zig.
i hope that was the problem!
I can't figure out how to get the pattern to "zag" in the opposite direction. The way I'm reading the pattern creates a bend in the same direction every time. Please help :)
ReplyDeleteDid you ever figure this out? I don't know how to make the slant up part of my zig zag. I just make a continuous square! Help!!!!
Deletei'm sorry i didn't reply until now! i didn't realize there were comments!
Deletefor the 'dc3together 2 times' , each dc3together is worked over 3 separate stitches. that might be the problem..
so, for the dc3together:
(yarn over, insert hook into stitch #1, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops)
now don't keep working in stitch #1, but move to stitch #2- (yarn over, insert hook into stitch #2, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops)
and now do the same and move to stitch #3- (yarn over, insert hook into stitch #3, yarn over and pull up loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops)
then finish the whole thing- (4 loops on hook) yarn over, draw through all loops on hook.
and do that whole dc3together again over the next 3 stitches.
i hope that helps!
Love it just a beginner wish me luck I'll need it vernee15
ReplyDeleteI just started mine!! Using cream, yellow, navy blue, and brown.
ReplyDeleteWhen you say (3 dc in next stitch) 2 times, does that mean 6dc in the same stitch? Or 3dc in one stitch then 3 dc in the stitch after that? Thank you!
ReplyDeletehi I'm new to crochet well reading patterns..... It says repeat row 2 so does that mean you continue doing row 2 till you have the length you want...... or do you continue with... row 1 ..row 2.. row 2 repeat... meaning three rows to pattern until finished
ReplyDeleteJust repeat row #2 itself until the correct length. I modified this pattern and added a drop stitch. I made a king size--I love it!! Thank you so much!!
DeleteHello.
ReplyDeleteWhat technique do you use when switching colors? -Cherry-kiss
Hello, another question.
ReplyDeleteHow do I do 2 dcs in 1 st? I cant find a tutorial for it. Is it also called a 2-DC Cluster Stitch? -Cherry-kiss
I figured out my Q's - Cherry-kiss
ReplyDeleteHow do I make your beautiful blanket into a smaller size as 40" X 60'?
ReplyDeletethank you for the pattern, I have been looking one for a queen size bed! it seems to me ater finishing with a 3dcs after every row my blankets is uneven at the end with the previous row end? I don't understand what I am doing wrong
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the obviation
ReplyDeleteYes, How does one make your pattern small as in a twin size?
ReplyDeleteI'm doing a queen size bed. What is my base line to start?
